Independence Day

This week was very exciting. Wednesday, the 16th, was Mexico´s Independence Day. Mexico´s been around 199 years. We had a fiesta at my church the 15th, late, and it was really fun to see everybody wearing their traditional clothes. I even had traditional clothes and did a traditional dance. It was interesting because the other person from Calvin who was dancing with us got sick at the last minute and couldn´t dance. So we kind of made up what we were doing as we went. But that made me the tallest by a lot, and I just really stood out :) Also, lots of makeup. Probably more than I´ve worn in my whole life put together in one night. Also at the fiesta was traditional food and lots of it. Very yummy!

Then on Wednesday, I got to go to Chichen Itza, or Chicken Pizza, as I like to call it :) What a beautiful place with sooo much history! It´s almost hard to believe it´s real. We also got in for free, I think because don Venus, my padre here, is Mayan, and can speak fluently. It´s really interesting. Then we also went to a cenote, which is basically a big hole in the group filled with rainwater. It´s really beautiful and common in Yucatan. So, definitely a good week, and I had my first exam today, and it wasn´t terrible, so that´s a good sign!!! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
